First-timer

Instead of sitting at home, playing crossword puzzles all day, I can play that violin and learn something new.

Meet Jim 👋

What’s your name, where are you from, and when did you start learning violin?

My name is Jim Williams, and I just started Trala a couple of months ago. So far, I really like it. I plan to stick with it.

Why did you decide to learn violin?

My father played violin when he was a little boy, and he never picked it up after World War II. When he died, I found these old violins in the attic of our home and they were beautiful. So I picked up one and spent a little money to have it restored. I started kind of late in life, maybe eighteen years ago, off and on. I love the sound of the violin, I have such a passion about the sound and the control you have over the music. The violin is such a love/hate instrument. I love it. Some days, you know, you just want to throw it down, but it just keeps drawing me back in.

What are your goals for the violin?

The little kid in me wants to be a professional violinist, but the old guy in me realizes I probably don't have enough life left to achieve that goal with as much time as it takes to practice. So my short term goals right now are that I would love to be able to play in front of my church, which I think would be fun, or play in a group, or maybe do weddings. One thing I love about learning the violin is that instead of sitting at home, playing crossword puzzles all day, I can play that violin and learn something new every day.
