Trala’s mission is to make world-class music education accessible to all. We’ve partnered with two celebrated violin shops to help our students purchase the best violin for beginners. Thanks to our friends at Kennedy Violin and Fiddlershop, you can find your first violin at a price point that makes sense for student violinists of all ages. When you buy a violin through our partners, you’ll save money on both your instrument and your iOS Trala subscription for the year.
So, what’s the best violin for beginners? The answer isn’t as simple as you might think. Rachael Miller, Trala’s Student Success Manager and professional violinist, tells students to “view the process of buying a violin like finding a good bottle of wine. It’s a subjective, personal decision.”
There isn’t a one-size-fits-all best violin brand for beginners, but you can expect to pay between $200 and $500 for your first instrument. When looking for your first violin, seek out a trusted violin shop rather than going through Amazon. Violin shops specialize in setting up their own instruments so that they're ready to play when you get them. When you purchase from a violin shop, a luthier (violin maker) will set up your instrument so that it’s ready to play. When you order from Amazon, your violin will likely need some extra work, and you’ll have to find a local teacher or shop to help you shape the bridge, string your instrument, and make sure the pegs don’t slip.
If you don’t live near a music store, check out our partners Fiddlershop and Kennedy Violins. These online violin shops have helped countless beginner violinists find their first instrument.
