Trala New Student Handbook

These are the essentials you need to know about how Trala works, to avoid confusion and stay on track. We want you to succeed, whatever your goals happen to be or later become.

Congratulations on your decision to learn violin! This is huge, and we are 100% here for you.

How do I contact Trala or my teacher?

There are several ways. By logging into your account online or in the app (Apple/Android), go to ‘Courses’ and click the small blue icon in the bottom right corner. You can also go to ‘Settings’ and click 'Questions? Contact Us'. This will allow you to contact Trala support for subscription or app questions, or send your teacher a direct message.

TIP: You can also email support@trala.com to reach general support. Your teacher may
reach out to you before the first lesson as well, either through the app or email.

What do I need to do before my first lesson?

Because our lessons take place on Zoom, save time by setting up before your first lesson! If you plan on joining the lesson on a desktop or laptop, be sure you have Zoom installed and are using the most recent version.

TIP: Zoom has 'High Fidelity Music Mode' specifically designed for online lessons.
Be sure to enable it to greatly enhance the audio quality of your lesson. You can
enable this feature on your computer and mobile device.

How do I join my lesson? 

When you schedule your lesson, you will receive a confirmation email from scheduling@acuityscheduling.com. A few minutes before the lesson, click on the Zoom link you received.

Your teacher will join on time. You can join your lesson by logging into your account here. You'll also find the Zoom link in the app (Apple/Android), under the ‘Lessons’ tab, though we recommend joining on a tablet or computer if possible. 

Whenever a lesson is scheduled, notifications are sent to the email address with which you signed up. For every lesson scheduled, you will receive a confirmation email and three reminders (2 days, 1 day, and 1 hour) before the lesson begins. Every email contains the Zoom link to that specific lesson.

TIP: Lesson emails sometimes arrive in Spam, Forums, or Promotions inboxes. If you don’t
see an email, look in those places. If you find it there, please mark it for your Inbox or consider setting up filtering/auto-forwarding for Trala emails. You can set up filtering in Gmail, Hotmail, Outlook, and Yahoo.

How does payment work and when will I be charged?

Trala is a recurring subscription. This means you are automatically charged every 4-weeks. In return, you receive full access to the app (Apple/Android) and regular lessons according to your subscription tier (1, 2, or 4 lessons every four weeks, for either 30 or 60 minutes each).

You do NOT lose lessons, even if life gets busy and you need to skip a week or two. Those purchased lessons can be scheduled with any teacher at any available time, for up to a year. Each payment adds more lessons.

If your first month of lessons was offered to you at a promotional price of 50% off,
you will be charged the full price of your subscription upon renewal. If you've taken
a trial lesson and would like to subscribe, please reach us at support@trala.com.

How do I upgrade, downgrade, cancel or pause my subscription?

Log into your account or open the app (Apple/Android), select ‘Settings’ in the bottom bar, and find 'Manage Subscription'. From there, click 'Cancel plan' to cancel or pause your subscription and 'Update plan' to upgrade or downgrade your subscription.

Upgrades and pauses will happen immediately, and downgrades and cancellations are effective at the end of the billing period. Cancellation or Pause is the best way to stop future payments.

If you need to cancel your lesson within 24 hours of your scheduled time, please contact support@trala.com or your teacher directly. Keep in mind that a refund or credit is not guaranteed for last-minute cancellations.

Is Trala flexible? What are the “rules”?

Yes, Trala is very flexible. Your subscription is month-to-month. You can cancel, upgrade, or downgrade at any time. Just login to your account or go to the 'Settings' tab in the app (Apple/Android), and follow the prompts to 'Manage Subscription'. You can also cancel or reschedule any individual lesson up to 24-hours before the start time without any penalty. Do this by going to the 'Lessons' tab in the app, and finding your upcoming lesson.

What if I need to cancel or reschedule my lesson?

You can cancel or reschedule a lesson online or from the app! Login to your account or click on 'Lessons' at the bottom of the app (Apple/Android) and look for the 'Edit' button next to the lesson you’d like to cancel. In order to respect our teachers’ time and preparation for each lesson, lessons must be canceled at least 24 hours before the start time.

Pause allows you to skip a billing period temporarily while keeping your current plan and rate. Cancellation will end your subscription entirely. In either case, you can still schedule and take lessons with your remaining credits.

What if my teacher is unavailable at the time I want, or if I want to try a different teacher?

We’ve got you covered! If your primary teacher isn’t available or you’d like to try taking lessons with someone else, you can schedule a lesson with any one of our amazing and unique teachers online or directly in the app (Apple/Android).

Click on the 'Lessons' tab and look for the 'Schedule Lesson' button. From there, you can select the teacher you’d like to learn from! Some students find learning from multiple teachers to be very rewarding.

What do I need to know if I am the parent of a Trala student?

If you are a parent or guardian of a Trala student under 18 years old, it is important for you to be present in at least the first lesson to meet the teacher, and possibly in future lessons too if the student needs physical help.

How do I make the most of the Trala app and web resources?

Logging into your account online or app is the best place to start. It includes a tuner, a video curriculum, and exercises and songs that will give you instant feedback. Your teacher is familiar with this curriculum.

The app (Apple/Android) is also where you can schedule and modify your lessons. The 'Settings' tab of the app is where you manage your subscription, and from where you can contact Trala or your teacher.
